Griddled Four by Four Angus Burgers with Classic Sauce

Colorado Four by Four Griddle Burgers with Revolution Barbecue Texas Beef BBQ Rub

If you tell your family you’re heading out on a road trip with a four by four, you might want to clarify whether you’re packing a truck or firing up the griddle. Around here, a four by four means four Angus patties stacked high with four slices of melted American cheese and cooked hot outside on the flat top. No mud tires required.

There’s something satisfying about watching that stack come together. Four well-formed patties with real structure, browned up properly across the surface, cheese melting down the edges, shredded lettuce tucked underneath, sliced pickles and diced onions bringing crunch. A steady shake of Revolution Barbecue Texas Beef BBQ Rub gives each layer bold garlic and cracked pepper depth so the beef carries the weight of the build.

Add a classic burger sauce and a seeded bun to hold it all together, and this is the kind of four by four that deserves its own destination.

Griddled Four by Four Angus Burgers with Classic Sauce

When we say four by four, we mean it. Four evenly formed Angus patties per burger cooked on a hot flat top until they build a full crust and stack clean. Each one has enough body to give you a real bite, and together they make a burger that feels substantial in your hands.

Seasoning each patty with Revolution Barbecue Texas Beef BBQ Rub builds bold flavor into the beef itself. Garlic and cracked pepper bring depth that stands up to four slices of American cheese without overpowering the stack. The burger sauce keeps things classic and balanced with creamy mayonnaise, sweet ketchup, briny relish, granulated garlic, and white vinegar for brightness.

Stacked on seeded buns with shredded lettuce, sliced pickles, and diced onions, these are the kind of burgers that make you glad you fired up the griddle.

Ingredients

  • 32 ounces Angus ground beef 80/20
  • 3 tablespoons Revolution Barbecue Texas Beef BBQ Rub
  • 8 slices American cheese
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons sweet relish
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 2 teaspoons white vinegar
  • 2 seeded hamburger buns
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 8 hamburger pickle slices
  • 1/4 cup diced white onion

Directions

  1. Make the Sauce: In a medium bowl combine mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet relish, granulated garlic, and white vinegar, stirring until smooth and fully blended. Set aside to allow the flavors to come together.
  2. Form the Patties: Divide the Angus ground beef into 8 equal portions and gently form into even patties approximately 1/2 inch thick and slightly wider than the buns to account for shrinkage during cooking.
  3. Season the Beef: Evenly coat both sides of each patty with Revolution Barbecue Texas Beef BBQ Rub, pressing lightly so the seasoning adheres to the surface.
  4. Preheat the Griddle: Heat the outdoor flat top griddle to medium high heat until the surface is evenly hot.
  5. Cook the Patties: Place the patties on the hot griddle and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side until a deep brown crust forms and the internal temperature reaches your preferred doneness. Work in batches if necessary.
  6. Melt the Cheese: Place one slice of American cheese on each patty during the final minute of cooking and allow it to melt fully while keeping the layers defined.
  7. Toast the Buns: Place the seeded buns cut side down on the griddle and toast until lightly golden and warmed through.
  8. Build the Burgers: Spread burger sauce generously on the bottom buns, add shredded lettuce, stack four patties with cheese on each bun, top with pickle slices and diced white onion, spread additional sauce on the top buns if desired, then crown each stack and press lightly to set.
  9. Serve: Serve immediately while hot from the griddle and enjoy with both hands.
